MOMIN مومن - CREATIVE DIRECTED, STYLED, & SHOT BY ME

Having a belief is interesting. I feel like many think religion is a one way “this is how you do it” type of thing. I would disagree. Your connection with faith or whatever you see it as is yours. The way you do it doesn’t have to make sense to someone else. You can live differently than the book and still have strong beliefs (or faith) As someone who grew up as a Muslim, there were many things that I loved and inspired me but wasn’t normal in my religion. Southern goth, dark “anti” religion vibes, nuns smoking and in mini skirts lmao and other “godlike” figures into their art. it was soooooo cool to me as an art form. We see it all the time in music. Rappers putting crosses on fire in their videos, lil nas dancing on sa✝️an… etc. I always wished I could see that but with Islamic influences mixed in. But never did I see someone actually do it.

I don’t think doing those things makes you any less of a believer or worshipper of dark energy. Sometimes it really is just art and nothing more. Unpopular opinion but I think you can play with religion.

I def think that this will be hated by many, it’ll discomfort a lot and evoke emotion but allow this to be a space for everyone to talk and speak their views. ik there’s hella people who grew up into similar things like me wishing they could see what I wanna see but are maybe afraid to do it cause of how strict our community is. This is a way of me saying to forget all them and just show your beliefs the way you want to.

This is a woman who is connected to her beliefs but expresses it in the way she wants. Opposite of the normal religious modesty.

Portraying our faith in a way that feels authentic to us.
