Peace (White), Oppression (Black), Prosperity (Green), Red (Sacrifice) 🇵🇸
Growing up in a Muslim community, I was always surrounded by either South Asians or Arabs. Most of my friends were Palestinian, Jordanian, Syrian, etc. so I was always hearing things about the war and what’s going on in their country. I was surrounded by it. My brother was part of MSA (Muslim Student Association) so he would bring me along to protests and any type of events that were aimed to help. The more I went, the more it crossed my mind.. “dang when is this going to stop? When can they be at peace?” Years pass… and it’s still going on..
Palestinians [Arabs in general] are like siblings to us. We may not be exactly the same but we understand each other. We have similar beliefs, thoughts, and morals. So with that, I empathize with them. They are some the most generous, sweet, loving and peaceful people I’ve met. Through all of this oppression, they haven’t lose those qualities. I feel like me and honestly none of us are truly free unless they are too. No human should have to wake up and immediately be afraid that they could lose their life.
It’s been 75 + years now. They deserve peace. I notice it becomes a trend every few years to talk about them and spread awareness but it shouldn’t be something that comes and goes. We should always be speaking up. This is my way of breaking through the silence and saying
“We Are Here For You”
HURRIYAH meaning FREEDOM.
